Puzzle #61 - X-Sums Sudoku

This is one of my proudest Sudoku constructions. I suspect that 28 is the only number for which this sort of givenless X-Sums Sudoku is possible, for a reason that might become evident to you once you start solving.

Rules

Place a number from 1 to 9 into each empty cell so that every row, column, and bold-outlined region contains every number exactly once. Clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the first X digits placed in the corresponding direction, where X is the first of those digits.

Difficulty: 6/10
