This puzzle was written for a speed-setting contest in which puzzles had to contain clues with two simultaneous meanings. I combined two well-known Sudoku variants with outside clues, because who could pass up the (usually impossible) opportunity to create a Sandwich Sudoku with no givens?
Rules
Place a number from 1 to 9 into each empty cell so that every row, column, and bold-outlined region contains every number exactly once.
Each clue outside the grid must be valid both as an X-Sums clue and as a Sandwich clue.
X-Sums - clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the first X numbers placed in the corresponding direction, where X is the first of those numbers.
Sandwich - clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the numbers placed strictly between the 1 and the 9 in the corresponding row or column.
Difficulty: 6/10
