In a previous life, I authored puzzles for the GAS (Genuinely Approachable Sudoku) team. Occasionally, we held crossovers with the GAPP (Genuinely Approachable Pencil Puzzles) team, and a version of this puzzle was originally written for GAPP but rejected at review for being too intricate.
The version submitted for GAPP had two additional clues that were not required for the solve; once the puzzle was no longer being considered for GAPP I removed those two clues to leave the version here.
Rules
Shade some cells so that every unshaded area is rectangular in shape. The unshaded rectangles must all be connected diagonally in a single network. Clues cannot be shaded, and indicate the number of cells in the unshaded area they belong to. Each unshaded area of cells contains at most one clue. No 2x2 area can be entirely shaded.
Difficulty: 4/10
