I first came across this variant in a couple of videos on the Cracking the Cryptic YouTube channel. At first glance, the variant appears like it shouldn't have enough information to result in a unique solution. Naturally, I then created a puzzle using a twist on the variant that provides even less information than the original.
Rules
Place a number from 1 to 9 into each empty cell so that every row, column, and bold-outlined region contains every number exactly once. Each number in the grid represents a building of that height. Clues outside the grid indicate the height of the first building in the corresponding row or column which cannot be seen from the position of the clue, where taller buildings block the view of smaller buildings behind them. Furthermore, every possible odd clue has been given outside the grid. That is, if a given position does not contain a clue, the first building not visible from that position must have even height.
